About Me
& My Cars
So which engine is my favorite and which one is my least favorite? By far my favorite engine is the Olds 403 engine. With a good dual exhaust system and tuned right this engine just screams!! My least favorite engine would have to be the 305. I have a 305 engine in the 1979 Camaro that Im driving right now. It's an OK engine but just doesn't have the power that a 400 or 403 engine has. The best thing about the 305 is that it gets better gas mileage. With as far as I have to drive to work id be spending $30 a week on gas if I had a 400 or 403 engine so there are some benefits to the 305. If you would like to know more or just talk about the Camaro/Trans Am just write me and I will respond back to you.
The year was 1989 and I was driving a small Nissan pickup truck. While I enjoyed driving my small truck it was very slow and I really wanted something with a little more power. I mean, I would be at a stop light in my truck , floor it when the light turned green and still be the last one through the light!! I went to trade in my Nissan pickup truck for a 1983 Camaro. I had always loved the way the 80's Camaro looked and had always wanted one. I test drove the 1983 Camaro and was about to complete the the trade when the car lot owners wife drove up in a beautiful 1979 Trans Am!! I had never really given much thought about the older Camaros and Trans Ams up until that point but this car REALLY caught my eye. I asked the car lot owner if the 1979 Trans Am was for sale and he said yes it was. When I test drove the car I pulled onto the road, hit the gas and it was love from that point on. The Trans Am had a 6.6 liter 403 Olds engine and the car just screamed!!
Well, today is 2005 and I no longer have that car. Like the saying goes you don't know what you've got till its gone. For the last sixteen years I have have driving a 1976-1979 Camaro or Trans Am. There have been many times in the past that I have had to ride the bus to work because I couldn't always afford to keep the cars running but ten years down the line I can say that it has all been worth it. Since 1989 I have become very loyal to Chevrolet and Pontiac, unfortunately both the Camaro and Trans Am have been discontinued.  Since the beginning in 1967 there has never been one bad model year for the Camaro or Trans Am which is a lot more than you can say about the Ford Mustang!! I really feel as if the Camaro and Trans Am are the Harley Davidsons of cars. If all Camaro and Trans Am owners would do some of the things like having a yearly run on a big city like the owners of Harley Davidsons do then the  Camaro and Trans Am line might  really come back to life.
The following is a list of Camaros and Trans Ams that I have owned since 1989
1979 Trans Am with Olds 403 engine
1979 Firebird Formula with Olds 403 engine
1978 Trans Am with Pontiac 400 engine
1976 Trans Am with Pontiac 400 engine
1978 Camaro Z-28 with Chevy 350 engine
1979 Camaro with Chevy 305 engine
